Beginning Fly Tying Class

HomeGetting Started Outing

The Getting Started Outing is a fantastic event designed especially to help beginning fly fishers to get started fly fishing the Eastern Sierra.  But even experienced old time members can join in the fun. Check out the line-up of guided activities. Register for the BBQ Dinner and those events that you qualify for. Note that a few are specifically encouraging beginners. Others are planned for more advanced anglers. Many are open to all. Or, don't register for any of the guided activities, but come and fish some of your favorite Sierra spots and get together with friends for meals and campfires.
And speaking of campfires, we usually have a group site reserved. Check under this year's GSO on the Event Calendar for specifics.
The annual GSO BBQ Dinner on Saturday evening is an absolute MUST DO! Join in with friends and share fish stories, bear stories or talk about your lawns back home.  The BBQ Dinner avtivity under the GSO event on the calendar will list prices and give contact information.
Review the activities and check those that you want to do. Make sure that your selected activities don't overlap as it's rather difficult to float tube Crowley while casting dry flies on the Dana Fork.  If you have difficulties, you may contact the event coordinator listed on the Event Calendar for additional information or help in registering.
About our professional guided clinics
Our paid pro-clinics all use professional fly fishing guides. You can check out their bio's at the web sites referenced on the Event Calendar.
There is a charge for each student for these clinics. You can pay online when registering or send a check maid out to SPFF to our treasurer. Be sure to note the clinic on the check.

About our volunteer "guides"
Other than the pay clinics, the rest of our guides are volunteers. None are paid, certified, or licensed. They volunteer their time and knowledge purely for the love of our sport and their genuine desire to help our members and guests enjoy fly fishing. They are friends helping friends.
Go to the Event Calendar for July and look at the great fishing clinics we have planned for the GSO this year. Mark your schedules for this year's GSO.
We normally hold a Pre-Outing Workshop for this event on the Saturday two weeks before the GSO. Several of our "guides" and other experienced Sierras trout anglers will be present to answer questions and help beginners get set for the outing. Check the July Event Calendar for time and location.
