Fly Fishing Photography Class with Joey Guzman & Glenn Short

Saturday, May 4 from 9am to 12-noon

Members interested in improving their fly fishing photographs are invited to join a free Saturday morning class and workshop on May 4th. The class will be taught by long-time members Joey Guzman and Glenn Short. Joey and Glenn have extensive experience in photographing nature and fly fishing, and their work has been published in various national publications over many years.

The workshop will be informal, collegial and entertaining. They will explain the important basic principles of photography and show examples to illustrate those concepts. They will discuss practical ways to get good photographs to record your epic adventures. Joey and Glenn will bring the equipment they use on the water, and will provide a handout summarizing the information during the workshop. They will also host a late afternoon session on the water at the GSO this year. Be sure to register for the activity beginning April 1.

Participants should bring the camera(s) or phone they normally use to photograph when fishing and the manual. Refreshments (non-alcoholic) will be provided.

This class is open to Everyone, Active Members get priority. Register your friends and family!

HOT CREEK FISHING RANCH
JUNE 7-10, 2024

Come and join Sierra Pacific Fly Fishers on the Blue Ribbon designated trout stream: Hot Creek.

This Dry-Fly only catch and release barbless hooks only fishery will test your angling skills for Brown and Rainbow trout.

These fish thrive on an abundance of Mayflies, Caddis, Midges and Stoneflies. This unique fishery can be quite challenging but also rewarding with some fish ranging between 18-22 inches.

Sierra Pacific Fly Fishers has reserved all nine cabins of Hot Creek Ranch (HCR) for the second weekend in June (7-10). The weekend rate is $1050.00 (inc. taxes & fees) per cabin for two (2) anglers sharing a cabin. Transportation and meals are the responsibility of each angler.

SPFF active members have first option on these cabins until March 31, 2024; then the registration will open to the fly fishing community.

Mammoth Lakes offers accommodations to fit every group and budget, from campsites, RV parks, Inns, motels, resorts, and condominiums.

1st Place - Largest Trout catch on the Fly
2nd Place - Most Fish on the Fly

Base camp will be at the Fairview Campground which is right next to McNally's Fairview Lodge & Restaurant.

This Outing can be fished independently (but always good to have a buddy) or in small groups, with no guides. For those who have never fished the Kern River, consider hiring a guide for half/full day with a few members to split the cost. The Kern River Fly Shop is located in Kernville and has a wide selection of local water flies.

We are trying to plan an activity on the morning of Friday September 27 on how to read the Kern river water, structures, and entomology.

For members trekking out on Friday, there will be a campfire at one of the campsites to socialize and share fish stories. And, on Saturday folks can join fellow club members at McNally's for dinner or local craft beers on tap. There are many options in Kernville and along Mountain Highway 99 for lodging. If you aren't in the camping spirit, there is McNally's Fairview lodge and Corral Creek Lodge, but there are many more from budget motels to Inns.

Please register for the event and Saturday night dinner. If you will be staying at the Fairview Campsite, please register the campsite event so we can connect you with your fellow campers. Campsite reservations must be completed and paid at www.reservations.gov.
