INTRODUCTION TO FLY FISHING (ITFF)

If you have ever wanted to learn to fly fish, here is your chance - SPFF’s classes will take you step by step from your first cast to landing a beautiful trout on the Lower Owens River. The classroom sessions are at the Reseda Park Recreation Room, 18411 Victory Blvd. Reseda, CA 91335, and will cover everything from knot tying to choosing the correct flies. At the park’s pond you will learn the essential casts to prepare you to fish in rivers, lakes and streams. SPFF supplies loaner rods and reels to get you started. The classes are run by certified instructors and experienced Club members.
Class 1 – January 11th, 2020 - 9.00 am to 12.30 pm (Registration begins at 8:00 am, see below)
Registration & general Introduction to fly fishing. Explanation of equipment & local fishing opportunities. You will learn the PICK-UP & LAY-DOWN CAST.
Class 2 – January 18th, 2020 - 9.00 am to 12.30 pm
Dry fly fishing and knot tying. You will learn the FALSE CAST.
Class 3 – January 25th, 2020 – 9.00 am to 12.30 pm
Nymph fishing and more knots. You will learn the ROLL CAST.
Graduation Class Outing – January 31st – February 1st
This event is optional but highly recommended. It is a weekend of fishing the Lower Owens River in Bishop, CA. with help from your instructors. You’ll be out on the river catching trout, and enjoy our group dinner on Saturday night where you will receive your diploma and still have time to get home for SUPERBOWL SUNDAY.
COSTS: The four week course is $40 for adults and free for those under 18, and it includes a one year SPFF membership (normally $65). We provide loaner rods & reels at no charge. Students going to the graduation in Bishop are responsible for their own travel, meals and lodging expenses.
REGISTRATION: You can register at the event on the patio next to the Recreation Room before the next class.
