About this event

ANNUAL GREAT FALL OUTING (GFO)
BISHOP, CA
OCTOBER 24-27, 2024

Join your fellow club members and guests for a weekend of fishing and learning.

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 24
Arrive, get into town. Check your gear and hit the fly shop for any flies or gear needed. Call a buddy to meet for evening fishing and/or dinner and get to bed early as we will be hitting the ground running on Friday!

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 24-26
Chasing Big Browns

Weather permitting,  club member Joey Guzman plans on chasing the big browns that come up from Crowley Lake to the Upper Owens during our fall outing. Those big browns are usually trailed by some nice rainbows that eat their eggs. This is a member led activity for fishing, no instruction.

Joey is planning on hitting the monument area of the Upper Owens river.

If you want in on the action, meet at Dennys in Bishop - Joey should be there having breakfast at 6:30am -Thursday (10/24) to Saturday (10/26). Cell 8186361254 or email joeyguzman@aol.com

Flies: 18-14 sizes

Frenchie pattern (a must for the Lower and Upper Owens)
Perdigons
Egg patterns
Worm patterns

Streamers - sizes 10-4
White/Yellow/black
Wooleybuggers
Mini-dungeons (Joey usually cuts off the back hook)
Sculpin patterns

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 25 - FULL 6 participants, Waitlisted
We will host a Streamer Clinic with Mike Villemaire. Come and learn some new skills to chase the big Brown trout coming out of Crowley Lake into the Upper Owens river.
** There will be a $50 charge for this activity payable at the time of registration.

Mike Villemaire 619-756-4149

Want to learn how to catch those monster Browns that live under the cut banks of the Upper Owens (or any other river), then join Mike Villemaire. The activity will be geared to streamer fishing only and explain the various techniques and equipment set-up. Bring your own favorite streamer flies. The class is limited to six participants and there is a $50.00 fee for this activity payable at the time of registration. Location will be provided 1 week prior to activity.

Rods:  5-6 wt rod preferably fairly fast action 9-10’ long. Mike prefers longer rods.

Line: WF floating lines.  The water will be low and air cool. Sink tips are not really that useful in these small streams but 10’ sink lines are optional as long as a floating line is available as well.

Mike prefers Rio Indicator and Bank Shot lines.

Leader and tippet:  9’ 2x leaders and 2-4x tippet.  Tippet rings are optional.

Flies: Punk Perch Size 8,10. Olive woolly bugger size 8,10. Sculpzilla white size 6, senyo’s trout part. Finesse game changer. White and green balanced leech size 10. Mint mouse size 10.

And any flies that folks like to fish as fishing a fly with confidence is the most important thing.
