BEGINNING FLY TYING CLASS: Starts on February 5, 2020 ~ Refer to the the event calendar
This six week course will get you well on your way to a satisfying lifetime creating flies that will catch fish! You'll begin by learning basic techniques that you'll use to tie simple flies. Week by week you'll acquire more advanced skills and you'll apply them to create more complex flies.

You'll be guided by an experienced fly tier who will be your coach throughout the course. We will loan you a vise, a lamp and all the tools required for the course. Your cost for the course is $75 which is partial payment for your fy tying materials, course manual and accompanying DVD. SPFF pays the balance of the cost. Payment for the course is required at the time you register.
Unless you are absolutely sure about the vise, tools, and lamp you intend to purchase, we strongly encourage you to WAIT and use our loaners. The instructors will have a variety of vises & tools and you'll be able to get some valuable advice as to what you may want to buy.
In addition to this course, we meet most Wednesdays throughout the year to learn how to tie a fly that's taught by one of our group or a talented guest tier. Many of our "graduates" join us for these sessions and then even go on to become future instructors.
Since each class session requires that students use skills learned at the previous sessions, it's
very important that everyone attends every session. And yes, there will be HOMEWORK!

This class is limited to 10 participants.
Registration will open in November
.

NYMPHING CLINIC: October 25 & 26, 2019

The nymphing clinic will consist of 2 mornings of instruction, Friday and Saturday mornings. The clinic will be geared to teaching students how to fish with nymphs below the surface.  The location of the clinic will probably be on the Lower Owens right outside of Bishop. This might change if the flows still continue to be too high towards the end of October.  The cost per student will be his or her travel, lodging and food expenses. On Saturday evening at 6pm there will be a group dinner. The location of the group dinner will be announced as soon as details become available. Everyone attending the dinner will be responsible for his or her expenses.

We will meet in our traditional spot, the public parking lot behind BBQ Bill's, at 8:30 Friday and Saturday mornings to assign instructors to students and discuss dinner plans.
On October 19th from 9am to noon we'll conduct a pre-trip prep session to acquaint students with the information they'll want to have for the upcoming clinic.
