Upper Piru Creek (above Pyramid Lake) is designated as a Heritage and Wild Trout Water. We will fish the portion accessed via the Hungry Valley State OHV area near Gorman. Elevation is about 4000 ft. Daytime high temperatures are forecast to be in the mid '50's. Stream crossings may be necessary to navigate the creek. Waist high waders or hippers recommended. The water will be cold. Bring lunch and water for the day. More from CDFW: "Prior to the creation of Santa Felicia Dam at Lake Piru in 1955, Piru Creek was a major steelhead spawning tributary in the Santa Clara River system. Upper Piru Creek is designated as a Heritage and Wild Trout Water providing anglers an opportunity to fish for native trout in their native drainage. Upper Piru Creek is a fast-action fishery (greater than two fish per hour). Trophysized trout (greater than 18 inches) are generally absent, although larger-sized adfluvial fish have been observed in the system." Current Regulations (A) Piru Creek and tributaries upstream of Pyramid Lake. All year. Only artificial lures with barbless hooks may be used.
